This contemporary garden artwork with the theme "Roman and Limes" could be seen at the National Garden Show Koblenz 2011 in the main ditch of the fortress Ehrenbreitstein.
Stefan Laport interprets in this BUGA installation entitled "The Romans and the Limes" the Roman side as an ordered strict grid. The economically and culturally permeable Limes is shown as a footpath. On the right side the Germanic forests border on with interspersed clearings.
A strict grid on the Roman side face curved shapes with grasses on the Germanic side. In this way the differences between the two social systems come to expression.
In the foreground we see the Germanic side with Panicum 'Northwind'. In the background the Roman side with the basic principles of Cardo and Decumanus is recognizeable.
Already 2000 years ago, the Romans laid the foundations for the present appearance of the landscape along the Rhine and Mosel. The theme garden “The Romans and the Limes” refers to this historical feature by means of landscape architecture and garden art. In an abstracted way the Limes is...
