From my experience the beveled tile has a higher material cost and tend to be a bit thicker than squared edge ( 3/8") subway in order to achieve the reveal.

we used Sherman Williams Red Mahogany stain, then cut it with 1/4 Van Dyke Brown to take out some of the red. The floors themselves are real on site 3/4 think planks and are Red Oak. Best advice, get some stains, play with them and test them on scrap wood you have left over. Hope that helps.
