Schwabe relocated the kitchen to the addition. Here is where she reinterpreted materials used in the old house: The smooth, oiled, horizontal wood boards of the old house became vertical, painted, resawn wood boards in this room; the weathered Douglas fir flowing off the old house became a rough basalt

Log Cabin Kitchen
This kitchen is part of a new log cabin built in the country outside of Nashville. It is open to the living room and dining room. An antique pair of French Doors can be seen on the left; were bought in France with the original cremone bolt. Antique door knobs and backplates were used throughtout the
question about paint color. In this project the warm gray was chosen to co-ordinate with the chinking of the logs. Also, not in this photo, the kitchen is open to the living room whose focal point is an eighteen foot wall with a stone fireplace. the stones have this same range of colors. The warm
warm gray paint color is used on all the walls that are not log or stone and continues up the stairwell wall and into the loft bedroom over the kitchen. Hope this helps.

Architect Amy Alper suggests thinking about your personal preference — do you want an open or closed-off kitchen? While open kitchens have become trendy, a closed-off one can maximize wall storage and hide clutter after meals.
This fairly straightforward kitchen is all about color and texture. High-gloss white upper cabinets are paired with subtle gray-green lower cabinetry for a real treat. To bring it all together, a middle tone of stainless steel grating is used to wrap the sides of the island. Both functional and durable

Add major light to an otherwise dark space. In a kitchen or an open-plan space without windows (such as in a row house), adding light at the end of the room is essential. Here accordion-style glass doors completely fold away at the end of the long kitchen to reveal a garden patio.

affordable price. In my experience I know lot of Kitchen owners who have an ikea kitchen and are happy. The question you may want to address is - do you want a kitchen that lasts you for ten-fifteen years or five -ten years. If you want a stylish kitchen in a budget and are not that concern about having

We're planning on adding a gas line + stove and hood in our eichler kitchen. We need to find a 30" island hood to accommodate the cabinets. Would you share your experience, esp. which hood you chose?
Looking to an island to our small kitchen/dining/living area.
Hi Julie, glad you like this kitchen I designed. This was a full Eichler remodel for a client in Palo Alto, CA. I believe we had to get an extension for the hood and it was a bit tricky

What kind are the countertops? Love the simplicity of this kitchen.

Just in case you think a large window is for big kitchens only, here's proof that even a small kitchen is well served by having an extra-large window above the sink and stretching across the countertop.
If your galley kitchen placement falls against a wall with a large picture window,
to install all top-of-the-line materials, fixtures and appliances in a kitchen, so it's helpful to strategize what you are going to spend money on and where you can save. Personally, I'd rather splurge on my countertops or kitchen floor than the sink. After all, you can get a perfectly fine 20-inch-wide
