What type of stone is the flooring? Would it be appropriate for a covered, cement porch?
of the fireplace has angled sides to reflect the radiant heat out. If you've eve been by a campfire, or sat in the sun, you know what radiant heat is. It's different from heating the air, which heats your skin. That's called convective heat. Radiant heat comes directly from the source (a fire, or the sun)
they pull your heated air and send it up the chimney. Unless you're heating your house via only a wood stove, let's just not bother talking about efficiency. It's a luxury item. When the Rumsford fireplace was invented, wood was the only source of heat, so extracting every bit of radiant heat they could
Thanks! I do try to use my heater as little as possible in winter--I much prefer natural wood-burning fireplace heat over the dry heat from a heater. We only have a few very cold months in our region so it's feasible to burn firewood quite often. I'm going to do more research on the Rumsford FP as

Instead of a stainless “table” for the electric cooktop, we opted for a less expensive laminated metal material to fabricate the legs of the cooking island. The opposite side houses the refrigerator
What type of flooring is that?
Radiant ORchid For a dramatic and elegant vibe, pair Radiant Orchid with black. This is an unusual color palette for a kitchen, but I like it. The punch of lively orchid adds such personality.

An accent wall in radiant orchid adds a nice splash of color to this black and white kitchen.

Loft-Like Basement Renovation
like to keep the ceiling exposed to gain more space but we want radiant heat for the flooring. There is already a cement floor in place, can you tell me what is the thickness that will be added if we insulate (moisture), put on electric heating mat and ceramic tiles? thanks
building code here in Chicago. I have a two flat and the first floor is duplex down with the basement and I assume the code calls for a fire rated ceiling. How did you managed to get those plans approved?
thickness of floor with radiant heat?
Does this ceiling treatment (no insulation) cause heating problems on the main level? Does sound travel up?
I have the same type of basement ceiling, but with insulation. I have been told that removing the insulation would increase my heating bill and that sound would travel. Would like to have

What is the floor material? Thanks!
Working on tile vs wood flooring in the kitchen.
This is a sealed, hydronically-heated concrete floor.

Love the floor! What color stain is this?
good company to stain their concrete floors. Thanks!
concrete floor with regular scoring -- which makes it look like tile. But to answer your question -- my answer is that it depends. First thing to think about is the type of heating system you are using - if radiant in the floor, I would use tile over wood. If forced air and or radiant heat from another
Apart from that issue -- I think it is really a personal choice -- I like both but prefer wood. The house in this picture used concrete floors throughout over radiant heat -- they are really comfortable, easy to maintain and this was a really cost effective decision. What kinds of spaces are you having to
