brittle tree like a fruitless mulberry. Not a disease-prone one like an ash. Oaks are classic. My personal choice: coast live oak (although we now have to be concerned about sudden oak death). I haven't planted a live oak of my own. But squirrels have planted five trees for me, in their own way also

What type of sod are you using to grow so well under oaks?
I live in Tampa on a lot with many oaks. I haven't been successful with St.Augustine.

Excellent maintenance program regarding mowing intervals, spraying and fertilizing. Second: The lawn is under an automatic irrigation system. Third, the Oaks are regularly thinned out by a licensed arborist to allow more light to go thru the canopy an into the grass and shrubs. There are several varieties
which resemble these but have a brownish flower.... my front yard is so similar to this, it is truly magnificent, all though you have the beauty of oak trees which are beautiful on there own and rare, I have a mix of evergreen and maple :)
