Also the marble counter and backsplash behind cooktop
The clients knew right off the bat they didn't want their home to have yet another all-white kitchen. Although some of the cabinetry is white and white Calcutta marble was installed on the countertops and stove backsplash, Schumacher decided to use the island and wall space
stone countertops — like the marble countertop in this photo — use the leftover material as a half-wall backsplash. (Stone is sold in 30-inch-deep slabs, while the standard countertop depth is 25 inches with the front overhang.) Using the extra stone to protect your walls also creates a seamless look

in the marble...a slate blue would look nice.
The color of the floor is gorgeous. I just currently have maple floors (aged to a more yellow color) and want to do a kitchen with white cabinets, white marble countertops, and a similar backsplash to the photo, but don't know if my current floor would

with this marble also and are using a company out of Rochester, NY called Stone Seal. They will apply a lifetime seal on marble for $5 sq. ft. I am sure there must be others who do the same. Their phone number is 585-637-7052. We were told etching is less noticeable with a honed marble.

Marble maintenance tip 3: Consider polished vs. honed. A polished marble is a little more resistant to staining, whereas a honed surface is a bit more absorbent. Many people choose a polished marble countertop for

polish the marble surface and thereby reduce the honed look. That could defeat the purpose of having honed marble. My daughter has honed marble in her kitchen and is going through that same dilemma on her marble counters. Some have been etched by mistakenly using Lysol or allow acidic foods to come in contact
with the marble, (i.e. the juice from freshly sliced tomatoes). If, for some reason, you do decide to use "BKF", do not under any circumstances use the liquid form as it has Oxalic acid in it. Use only the dry powder form.( EDIT: I just read my BKF label and it says BKF Powder also has oxalic acid and
'real' marble!!) I would also apply it and scrub it in using a very fine abrasive pad such as ScotchBrite. Good hardware stores sell them in various grades of abrasiveness. Grey pads are the finest and should only be used. If you can handle the smell of Comet (aka: bleached cleansers) take a look at

does the marble hold up with food prep?
I've been told by many to not use marble in kitchen: stains when acidic food prepped., may scratch easily, to soft, etc. How is this marble look after 6-12 months of use? Any regrets using marble?

Is the marble on the island honed?
is it a marble subway. I cannot decide on a backsplash in my kitchen. We did soapstone on the white perimeter shaker cabinets and carrara marble on the greyed barnwood island. There are a two upper cabinets that have frosted glass in them.

forth on marble countertops. On the one hand, marble is gorgeous. On the other hand, it’s porous and prone to scratches. If clients really loves something, then I encourage them to at least consider it as an option. There's no rule that says your whole kitchen has to be marble.During a recent kitchen remodel
we put marble everywhere except for the island, which is frequently used for food prep. The result is a more practical version of the marble kitchen the client always wanted. She’s now the first to offer up her home for parties and get-togethers. When you love your home, you want to share it.

The kitchen was completely redesigned for this home. Note the fixed windows flanking the stove that are set directly under the cabinets and run to the countertop. The granite island countertop was salvaged from another job.
Marble countertops are usually long expanses showing off the great material. I love the unique choice here to make a bi-level kitchen island with a marble countertop.
