solid. You can get this material at any lumber store that carries cedar boards in a premium grade. If you are looking for a solid timber, try a lumber yard or sawmill. Sometimes you can also find cedar solid beams in salvage yards for re-purposing or get them made from discarded telephone poles.

It really depends on the size of your space, the size of the beams, and the architectural elements in your space
They are old reclaimed beams, because of this it is pretty difficult to know the species for sure.

It is solid, 5" wide, character grade red oak with a poly clear coat.
