Could I consider 30" cabinets with an 18" cabinet stacked on top? There would then be room for approx 5-6" of crown molding. From a design point of view, do these measurements work? Am I better

Yes, 48" is a tall door, but they can put magnetic latches at the top and bottom to help prevent the door from warping. I'm not sure the 30" with the 18" stacked on top would look as good. That's just my opinion though....you might have your kitchen designer draw it and it look just fine. These cabinets
