It's hard to see the floor in this picture to see if there is a lip of some kind.
the bathroom with waterproof membrane for the entire floor and everything drains to the floor drain that you see in the photograph. Key to open shower designs is ensuring user comfort in terms of temperature so this shower benefits from a heated floor throughout the shower and bath area as well.
The floor material is a black river pebble tiling product sold in 12X12 format and laid up for a continuous pebble floor. An internet search of same will provide you with sources close to you or your project.
