fireplace hearth was redone with beautiful slate tiles. I actually cut the 12 x 12 tiles into varioius sizes to create the design for the layout. This not only added to the intrigue of the hearth, but also allowed me to showcase more of the different colors that occur naturally in slate tiles.
I just did the tile.. :) I agree it's a nice color!

The doors are an off the shelf item from the Home Depot. Pleasant Hearth Easton Small Glass Fireplace Doors Model # EA-5010 Internet # 202325804 Here is another option for doors http://www.northlineexpress.com/fireplace-hearth/fireplace-accessories/fireplace-doors.html?dir=asc&order=price
build up the hearth to sit the built-ins on
I like this one (without the built-in bookcases or the raised hearth).
Cost: Drywalling over a brick fireplace could run about $1,500. Parko says a 6-foot-wide floor-to-ceiling paint-grade oak or poplar fireplace with a tiled hearth could run around $2,000. Wrapping an entire fireplace wall in stone and adding a custom mantel could run around $9,000. The most expensive remodel
