I love the stove hood and the shelves to each side. It totally hides the hood.
This could be our back wall

Hi, I love the color palette used. Would you share the wall color used?
This is a custom wood hood from Wood-Mode cabinetry. It is black and was factory-finished in the same manner as their cabinetry.

What range hood did you use? Like it - very subtle.

Beautiful! Is there ventilation for this range? Where/what type? I am being told I must have hood
There is no hood. Plenty of ventilation in the house. It's just a couple and their eating habits are simple, natural foods, minimum frying etc... In our area a hood is not required by law. It's mostly for heat and smells. If you have good ventilation you can consider not having one.
In our area, for residential kitchens you are not required to have a hood. If you have cross ventilation and don't do a lot of frying etc... a hood isn't required. We chose not to because it would block views and down drafts generally don't work well enough

Another view. Like the range hood. Prefer the boxy look to the slanted variety.
Gray walls, off white cupboards- great tones
we discussed wether it would look weird for beams to go all the way to wall over cabinets, here is an example of the look it would have
