Sarah, The flower is a Lily 'Casablanca'. It's a bulb that is readily available and can be planted in the spring. The bloom time is in mid summer and the scent is incredible. I have also grown this bulb in containers although they do prefer to be in the ground. The bulb increases in size every year and it

is an annual called Pentas, and the yellow in the foreground is Lantana. These are all Annuals, as Terrie said, requiring them to be replanted each year. Annuals live to bloom. It's like they know they've only got til frost to perform, so they usually bloom all summer long.
plant some flowers that are right for your area/space. etc, and if you chose perennials, you could wait for them to grow in without having something unsightly showing while you wait. And they would grow in every year (plant once, not annually). Good luck with your project! Terrie

The idea of flowers in a bed
is this flowering bed in her yard? It's so feminine and pretty and, yes, very, very fancy.
Wouldn't you love to meet the person who woke up one morning and said, "Today, I think I'll go make myself a flower bed?" I don't even have to meet them to know I'd like them...very much. :-)
phrase "flower bed" doesn't it? Whimsy can sometimes be hard to define, but if you're like me, you know it when you see it. This is what whimsy on steroids looks like...and I LOVE it!
This arrangement brings new meaning to the term "flower bed." OK, it's a little punny, but it is pretty (and you
even more flowers from the canopy).
The funky garden. Most of us have a need to personalize some aspect of our space — some of us are just more obvious about it. Still, it's hard to resist this garden bed (in all senses of the phrase).Design tip: Although this appears casual, you will need to plan ahead

planting beds, thanks to Fairfield House & Garden Co. for building these!
The flowers in this picture don't last that long. What is planted in the beds the ret of the year? I know the stems have to stay a while if a repeat performance the next year is desired to allow the bulb to store food for the next show but empty beds viewable from the house for 10 months of the year

garden beds. The upright growth and intense colors give the beds a tidy look, and massing the bulbs together highlights the colors. Smaller bulbs, such as crocuses and hyacinths, work well along the edges of beds, in rock gardens and around the perimeters of ponds and creeks. The one drawback of including
