It looks like it would go nicely even in larger fireplaces, and could be used much like French gilt bronze antiques, just set into the opening with iron supports running to the back. Of course, for petite fireplace openings, sizing is more of an issue/constraint

Also, there could be a tv inside the fireplace behind the lattice work. If so, i assume the lattice work is a decorative element to distract from the screen. Needless to say this would not be an active fireplace. I have seen this done before.
