Horizontal railing is being slowly removed from code books all across the country! some states and county"s will not allow "Ladder like" rails. Here in New Jersey is one state where it is against code.
on another note, that rail is beautiful, i love to see custom anything, especially out of IPE!
The rails are custom made stainless steel pipe with cable. The pipe connection is concealed by the tread to give it a clean look. On the side wall, the sheetrock goes right to the edge of the slightly overhanging treads.
