dining room light definitely has a presence in our 14' wide room. It may be a little overwhelming in a 12' room. It also depends on how wide your table is. I'd recommend comparing the diameter measurement of the light with the width of the table. I'd say the diameter of the light shouldn't exceed the width
of the light out of cardboard and hold it above the table! It's a great way to get a gist of how big it will feel in the room.
