Or (not that I recommend this) you could always do the rest of your renovation and then build the too-steep staircase later without a permit. Or you could go the hard route and try to have a nonstandard stair permitted
using your attic as a bedroom later on.

How did you insulate your roof for the attic renovation? I've seen some people recommend not venting,and making a 'hot roof'. Did you do ventilation under the sides? Is it warm in winter?
