I love the look you have created with exposed beams and painted cement walls! Would love to do something like that with our basement but we have insulation in between joists overhead and a contractor told us the walls had to be insulated? is that right? we live in Northeast USA

My house was also built in the 1920s. I have brick walls and they are crumbling a bit. I'm not sure if a power washing wouldn't crumble them further. Would a thin mortar layer and seal then paint work to achieve this cave like texture?
