What kind of ferns are circling the tree?
Thank you for your interest in one of our design projects. The fern you asked about is one of my favorites to use. It's common name is Lace Fern and it's botanical name is Microlepia strigosa. Have fun in the garden! K.

Fruit ripens from October to December, attracting many birds but may also be a staining problem if the ripe fruit drops on paving. This can be avoided by trimming the fruit out of the tree before it fully forms

Questions1
Are those swore ferns and are they perennials?
Yes, those are sword ferns along with some other ferns, such as Tasmanian Tree ferns and Mother Ferns. In most San Francisco Bay Area climates, sword ferns retain their leaves year round and live for many years. But in colder climates they may be considered perennials.
