think the branches are part of the table, but without knowing the material of the table's horizontal plane I can't say for sure how the pass-through illusion was constructed. The fotog is telling us to ask the designers of the space.
Natural branches: cut-out (or mesh/organizer insert) needed in the shelf on the wall opposite bed
