on the size and length of the structure you are planning to build. If it is purely an open rafter structure than i would suggest 24" center to center. Before you start ripping into your home I would suggest checking with your local building inspector to see what guidelines they have on open structures
I like that it's an extension of building instead of free standing

I have two questions. What is the finish on the cedar siding? What are the deck posts sitting on? Thank you!
Hello and thanks for your question. We are a design build-firm and everything you are seeing are not only homes we've built, but also homes we've designed. We

Lot size 30'x95' (2850 sq. ft). Coastal Commission comes into play as right on canal and the Venice Canals are a Historic Preservation Area. So, no build inside of 10' of property line on canal facing side. 22' height restriction at that 10' mark followed by an additional feet height every two feet of

doesn't look too stark. We are building our patio and there are two very large oak trees that provide nice shade. Any suggestions? Thank you. Shahla

picture to several pool contractors around here where I live, they all say they don't know how to build it...its a pool that is supported from the ground but is built to accommodate a second story deck...is there a way to purchase the "instructions" so to speak from the designer?...or ...this is far-fetched
far-fetched...:)..., do the these designers fly here to where I live, for a fee or course... to direct a contractor, they find, on how to build it? Please let me know how I can get some of the beautiful ideas you have on your website in my home. I know you get a gazillion emails wanting responses, so

Tub details and deck around it
Can you elaborate on the box and deck you built to set the oval tub in?
What material is the counter top and tub deck?
Dear 1511Millbrook: The counter and tub deck are thassos marble. It is a sugar white stone that has a nice sparkle. One serious downside to this stone is that it is very porous and stains easily
of an oblong "L" shape and the walls are not flat but have bumps and jogs that go around columns and pipes. This bath is in an 18 story apartment building that was built in the 1910's.

I kind of love the spare, utilitarian look of these buildings. Not sure I'd pick them for a primary residence, but a vacation spot in a harsh climate? Perfect.
Nick Deaver Architect calls this house Walkabout, but it is located in suburban Austin, not Australia. The name is apt both for the building's vernacular appearance (covered in corrugated metal) and the low-maintenance landscaping, recalling a place more remote than it is. The linear house carefully

Glass House in the Garden
What type of foundation does this building sit on? Footings excavated and poured below the frost line or slab on grade or ?
I plan on building a modern style retirement home for myself in SW Michigan. That puts us nearly in the same weather zone. Obviously, you felt it acceptable to use this type and style door. Am I being stuck in a traditional entry
We could totally do this! Maybe cheaper than building a sunroom.
