had been built that way originally. At the same time, it recognizes that the way a house was built in 1926 is not for the way we live today. Architectural pop-outs serve as window seats or garden windows. The living room and dinning room have been opened up to create a larger, more flexible space for living
similar bookshelves over door, don't know if I have room....Thank you

bookshelves, floor to ceiling not looking messy
I love the built-ins, but I don't have enough books to put in them. I'm afraid of making the room look small.

sets of built in shelves different widths?
I have a wall where I would like to make built in shelves like these but there is an air conditioning vent in the middle that will cause my width openings to be different sizes, so I wondered if that would look bad, or if the ones in the picture are different
The shelves are built in, and supported on the sides and back with hidden brackets. They are not adjustable. You can achieve a similar look with brackets like these from Hafele: https://hachol02.hafeleonline.com/OA_HTML/ibeCCtpItmDspRte.jsp?item=19310&sitex=10020:22372:US

custom built, or can I find them for sale somewhere? Also, where did you find the ladder? Thank you!
custom built or available for purchase?
Lovely "built-in" bookshelves with library ladder and lighting.
Like the artwork and the floor to ceiling bookshelves. Proportions are jumbo.
The built-in bookshelves and rolling library ladder are both custom creations forged out of steel. The coffee table is made out of steel as well, and is another custom design from Redmond Aldrich. Vintage chairs with polished wood backs add a natural element to the space, and a canary yellow couch provides

Book shelves in dining room. What if our antique buffet was between similar bookshelves in a built out area?
Built-in bookshelves provide double duty and fill in the gap between the large windows in this dining room. Crown molding around the ceiling adds more character to the space.

Built in bookcases (maybe not white) help to move from kitchen to sitting room. Like family room and dining together, then a bit of separation to kitchen.
Bookshelves are a divider between living room and kitchen. No walls needed.
room. Built-in bookshelves separate the main seating space from the kitchen; they were deliberately built just shy of the ceiling to allow natural light to flow in from a kitchen skylight. The main inspiration for the home was “distilling the house so that there was nothing that would lead to clutter

where built-in bookshelves flank a painted brick fireplace. Clark and Caroline painted the brick fireplace as well as the inside of the cabinets when they first moved in. Mounted deer antlers hang above the mantel with a photo of Caroline’s grandmother. The fresh flowers are from a nearby farmer’s market
