finish while providing a warm setting for daily life was accomplished through mixing warm natural finishes such as stained wood with gray tones in concrete and local limestone. The home's program also hinged around using both passive and active green features. Sustainable elements include geothermal
high efficiency glazing, recessing lower spaces into the hillside on the west side, and roof/overhang design to provide passive solar coverage of walls and windows. The resulting design is a sustainably balanced, visually pleasing home which reflects the lifestyle and needs of the clients. Photography

What is the finish on the concrete?
I love that look too. The Washington State Convention Center is a great example of board-formed concrete. Thanks for posting.
That is board-formed concrete, meaning that the formwork was lined with cedar boards as was done before plywood was used. Thanks for asking. DA.

Love the way this concrete wall looks. They must have done something to make it look like wood planks.

The outdoor spaces are defined by low brick seat walls capped with blue stone. Four new Maple trees punctuate the symmetrical

I like these walls. I picture using a facade on the walls we have then capping them with a beautiful stone we can use for surface at parties for drinks, plates, cooking.

I am guessing that the floors are painted concrete? What type of paint/sealer is used, and what type of prep
is that reclaimed brick on the wall or a laminate facing?
I love this look. How difficult is it to maintain? We have kids and a dog and the area with concrete floors would be hall/famiy room that would open out to the backyard (grass, gravel etc).... I love white but will it be dirty all the time?

Painted concrete floor and exposed brick wall. Warehouse styling.
An exposed brick wall runs through all three floors. ‘We originally wanted to expose the brick in just one or two areas of the house, but our architect encouraged us to do one entire wall from top to bottom,’ Verbrugge says.

Where are the downspouts? Are they in the walls?
do you know if the planters will crack due to weather with time? was color added to the concrete of planters?
also, are these concrete pavers? if not what are they? Thank you!
standard 24x24 concrete pavers. The concrete planters were not colored, but they were sacked to fill in the holes from the concrete pour. As the NW climate is moderate, there should not be excessive heating or cooling that would encourage the concrete to crack. In addition the concrete planters were designed
The downspouts are not in the walls. They are located strategically in the sideyards of the house to minimize their visual impact.

about doing a wall-hung concrete countertop for their master bathroom, similar to what you have in this picture. I'm worried about weight, so am wondering if the height is just achieved by pouring it with an "L" front edge vs. all concrete. Also wondering how it is attached to the walls. Thanks very

Do you know if the countertop was water/acid based stained, or was it just colored concrete?
Is that a bearing wall that is not framed in? Thx
is it concrete or solid surface or...? :)
There are several books published on making concrete countertops. You'll have to be pretty handy.
Looking to attempt a DIY concrete countertop... Love this look, Is this something a homeowner would be able to achieve? Was there stain used or is this natural concrete?
