while the non-combustible surround appears to be some sort of tile. The paneled wall and mantel, as well as the rest of the built-ins and paneling in the room are all custom and are incredible. Great job!
At the risk of being a bubble-burster, I agree that the fireplace above appears to be burning
burning wood, but looking at the perspective on the brick at the left side of the fireplace opening, and the apparent lack of the required hearth depth (20" deep for a 42" wide fireplace opening) I'm going to assert that the image in the photo above is a "cut-and-paste".
