a modern landscape is what you strive for, think of the plant material as just another texture, material, or color to incorporate into your landscape. The linear swaths of green juxtaposed with the industrial concrete walls complete the perfect minimal garden.
hardscaping can be the overriding design feature, as with these simple concrete retaining walls. The plantings are used to emphasize the clean lines of the walls. Grasses can be perfect to achieve this. The Festuca grasses used here become low-maintenance ground covers as they grow, requiring minimal

The grade of the site created naturally different experiences in the landscape, and the path itself reflects those changes. Steeper portions of the site require quicker and more direct movement, meaning less space to meander or leisurely take in the site. When the grade levels out, the paths are widened

I love the way the slope was designed , the green plants make it really come out nicely
In arid climates like Los Angeles, it is essential that you select plant varieties that will survive without killing your water bill. One of the most critical points to remember about landscape design is that plants are alive. No matter how nurturing and attentive you are, they still are going to do

circles within a very minimalistic landscape. The circles seem to echo the circular canopies of the mature deciduous trees and bring a completeness to a very simple scheme.
The barn stretches across the landscape. Both building and site are intentional, designed elements that support a story about
cutting into and living within a site. Changes in elevation have been artfully handled; Cor-Ten steel retaining was used around the trees to link the landscape with the barn cladding. I love the way this sphere is centered in this shot; I think it's aligned so that it can be viewed from inside the house out into the landscape as well. The funny thing is it looks a little bit like a really fancy giant bowling ball that's going to take down the split of the two chairs.

Pattern in a contemporary garden doesn't always have to be achieved by hardscaping. This superb glaucous planting scheme fills the space with pattern and texture. The rhythmic, linear planting puts movement into the design and emphasizes the pattern clearly.
