What's the brand and model of the ventilation hood?
housing the microwave not the same depth as those on the other side of the ventilation hood?
cabinet to the left of the hood and the upper cabinet to the right of the hood, are hitting the ceiling at different points. The left upper cabinet is a standard 12" deep cabinet and the cabinet above the microwave was constructed to match the depth of the microwave.

range hood is an OK choice. However, if you DO need powerful ventilation as well as looks, make sure you choose a range hood in the 600-1000 CFM range. (More than 1000 CFM is often not recommended, due to negative pressure issues and make-up air requirements in many locations).
