At the risk of jumping in front of Ana Williamson, the fireplace is a gas direct vent fireplace. I think it's a Town & Country ( http://www.townandcountryfireplaces.net/index.php ). To get that seamless look, we usually run cement board up to the stops on the fireplace and skim coat the whole thing

Putting in a wood burning element..stove or fireplace easily done with direct vent pipe through wall or ceiling
I like this lighting solely for deco rational purposes, I find it suites the space very well continuing the country feel. Also this chandelier is a perfect size for this big space. It is good to have a bigger light when in a bigger space. Or use two smaller ones

The room has a standard vent fan to remove moisture. The wall is constructed of a hardi backer like behind tile the the mortar and stone overlay.
Not sure if this posted or not. This is a man made product purchased through Boral Brick and is a veneere. There are several sources in the country this was made by Lone Star Stone or The real product comes form Texas Stone. Please let me know if you need any more details. Good luck
