really good (but exaggerated) photo of how I pictured the second floor hall that goes from the loft to the back mudroom stairway. One of the openings would open into the lower hall between the kitchen and master bedroom.

Thanks for the great info regarding the stairs. What are the dimensions of the stairwell opening? That is, how much space would I need to put these stairs in to a lower level of our house? Also
