The steel brackets on the bench are cantilevered from the wall and were connected during framing, before the backer board and tile install.
The Tiler used a 1/2" thick 12 x 12" tile, then cut it down to the size. Daltile or other local (Austin) tile suppliers have different sizes and shades of Leuders

Did installing/cutting the openings in for the soffit down lights prove difficult due to the wood hardness? Thanks in advance. Beautiful home BTW!
While ipe is more difficult than softer woods the right saw makes cutting openings doable. I don't know what tools the contractor used. Risinger Homes was the builder.
