does the wood top "survive" the water from the sink?
I want dark hardwood floors what is the best color for that island top
dense wood i.e. tight grain structure which does not absorb as easily as most other woods. If you are using raw wood, that is not coated with polyurethane or other hard sealant, it is important in my opinion, to use "mineral" oil for your wood's surface. Mineral oil will not go rancid like most oils
for the wood. If you need to sand out stains as suggested, perfectly acceptable and effective practice, be sure to oil when you are done sanding. I hope this makes sense and is helpful to some. What a great site this Houzz is!

Love this, but we do not need marble on wash stand as we have it on the walk in shower. I like the height of 'wall' but it is too dark. and dark green is the main

Can you dye over stained wood?
Hello, I am redoing a 1939 house that had sweet gum trim and millwork. It had orginally been stained and shellacked but the
like the stain color because its that reddish '40's color. Could I apply dye over the stain to darken the color of the wood? I think I could clean it with solvent to get the rest of the shellack off. I'm trying to save the sanding of all the wood. Please let me know if this is possible or what you advise
not a stain. I like to use dyes because they are completely transparent, and allow the grain and patterning of the wood to show through, but still give you a deep, rich color if that's what you want. I order my dyes from Woodworker's Supply on line. The come in powder form, and you mix then with water
