Once you've determined that the plant you're interested in will indeed grow where you want to put it, it's time to consider:2. Is the Plant the Right Size for the Job?If you're looking for a garden focal point or a screen, a large shrub or an ornamental tree — plants 8 to 25 feet tall — will do the job

What are the plants and trees that were used for the hillside?
Hello! Could you please tell me what plants where used in this landscape?
Hillside retention with rock & plants
Interesting all the way around! I love how the rock looks so natural with the plants around them...nice!

Can you tell me more about growing Serissa?, is the left plant one?

I doubt that many of us would think of placing two huge pedestal urns along a walkway, and then planting them with tropicals and palms
and then planting them with tropicals and palms that spill over the rim. The treatment works here, allowing the designer to feature plants that would otherwise obstruct the path if used at ground level. Instead, seasonal begonias and compact ground covers decorate the base of each urn

Garden Paths and Landscape Steps
A steep hillside is turned into a lush landscape using salvias, ornamental grasses, pomegranates and other easy care plants.
Can you share with me a list of plants, shrubs and tree's used here on this steep slope. It's truly fabulous. would love my steep hill to look like this. Rhoda Meade San Mateo, CA
ornamental grasses are common here. Would any of these other plantings work here?
grasses towards the top of the staircase are Miscanthus species. Below them to the right is a salvia leucantha and a pennisetum grass. The orange plant below the pennisetum is a phygelius and below that are the David Austin hybrid roses. On the opposite side , starting next to the lawn and moving up

6. Create interest with plants. What you would like the experience of your front garden to be for your friends and neighbors? Richly textured planting designs help define the mood of the garden. Consider using plants that are either native or adapted to the region in which
back side of the breezeway is all glass and enjoys views of the backyard. Two large pots of miscanthus flank the front door. "We play around with the plants in these containers seasonally ... we've also used large boxwoods and fuchsia to add color, texture and height next to the door," says Cunningham.

The front of my home gets little sun....only a short portion of the day as we have so many trees. Do these plants grwo well in partial sun....if not would you recommend plants/shrubs that do do well in partial sun? Thanks so much,
too much symmetry in these plantings for my liking
repetition of plants in circular forms create rhythm
More of the same type of planting style here but with less straight line arrangement. Having curves is ok if we mass plant fewer varieties of plants.
Like the low plants, rocks, and different textures
hardscaping may play a leading role, plant choice is still a major factor in a modern or contemporary landscape. Ideally, most should have an architectural character (think phormium or blue fescue) with foliage in shades of green or gray. Though colorful flowers and plants can be used in this style of landscaping
