HAMPSTEAD HOUSE

Questions0
The works involved the complete refurbishment of a 1920's red brick and hanging tile detached house within a conservation area in Hampstead. The house had been in single occupation for many years, and had been extended in a 70's style not in keeping with either our clients new functional requirements
s or the orginal logic of the house. The client sought to subtly mix of the aesthetic of the orginal Arts and Crafts style with their passion for 1930/40's French deco and the practicality of a modern home. The existing footprint at ground floor but the more shoddy extensions were shorn and the orginal
s were completely remodeled. The project exemplifies our approach of undertaking all aspects of the design, including the designed aspect of the design from the table linen to the architectural design and the landscape work.

Kim- Desire To Inspire: The first time I saw my house I was shocked at its size. It’s 12 ft wide. I had never been in a house that narrow before. I could tell right away that I could work with the basics it had to offer as it had good bones. I was also shocked by the poor workmanship on many things

"It was small, cramped and outdated, with low ceilings and a style that reminded me of the early ‘80s." It was also some way from what the owners – a young couple – wanted

Adobe Courtyard

The design objective for this six acre ocean view parcel in Montecito was to create a literal replication of an 1800's California hacienda. Four adobe structures define the central courtyard while secondary terraces and walled gardens expand the living areas towards the views and morning light. Simple

Different sections of the structure surround a courtyard, defining a key exterior relationship to the whole composition. The original ranch style captured these
these elements more modestly but still had the same rambling form. Because the style became so popular, there are several variations. As with this house, many have some Spanish details, such as tile roofs, while others appear rustic and may have wood shingle roofs. Some can be considered traditional, while
