We are converting our attic into a loft, but have been told we can't do a ladder because it doesn't meet code. Must be a ladder. How do get around this?
What is the size of the loft area?
Sharon- the porch here is just screened in. The house is on the coast of Maine. We don't see many sleeping porches here, but almost all of the houses we design have screened in porches because of the mosquitos and blackfly

I have been trying to figure out the code for loft space with respect to stairs vs ladders. Everything I've seen seems to indicate that if the space is "inhabitable"(coded by size ) then it must have stairs not ladder. How do you get around this??
