something muted like the sample you added might look lovely ! I personally would avoid a stronger primary colour as in my opinion softer works better with an older style property ( bit like makeup on older ladies !! leave the bright colours to the teenagers !)

I think a more modern design in red would look amazing!

Love the chalky green as well. Paint the exterior of the door. The inside color of the door should compliment your interior color scheme and wall/trim color.

I think orange would work well with the little brown roof above and the brown bricks below.

    Have fun with your project!

Thanks guys for all the tips. The inside of that door is this. Thinking of doing window frames in same door shade or should I stick to white and do inside door white too?

Am I missing the door in the picture above? Which side? The inside of the door can be different from the outside.

Your place looks very quaint. I'd keep the window frames white but do the door in a color or keep it wood with varnish. You cant go wrong either way.

inside, I'd say keep it white ! helps show off / compliments any wall colours you might add better if it's white - and doesn't tie you to a particular scheme inside too !

I like your soft gray green paint chip stuck in the door frame. If you really loved the look of a varnished, natural finish door, you could strip this one. It would take a long time and perhaps need bleaching in addition to sanding to even out the finish.

If you have more photos of the house showing the outside windows and a view of the whole house, that'd be helpful in recommending colors. I gather the roof is probably brown asphalt shingles like the entryway's roof?

Good photos. Do you have one showing the front door and the whole house?

Is that a ham radio antenna or a weather station mast on the chimney?

Any of Leelee and OnePlan's color ideas would be great. The bright colors are more of a fun statement for the front door.

What geographic area are you in?

Dion, your home is so cute and quaint. You should think about some simple landscaping. Just scratch up some dirt in an irregular pattern and plant some perennial flower seeds. Coneflower, sweetpea vines and lavender. Seeds are cheap and it would be so lovely. Use lots of seeds. Also, hollyhock and phlox. Plant the tallest near the house and come forward to the shortest.

See how the bed is curved in the pic above? That's what I mean by irregular--not just a straight line.

Oh my, what a lovely home. With the terracotta brick at the door you do want a complimentary green in the green-blues . . . leave the dark trim outside and all the white inside for now. Something along the likes of this historic sw rookwood jade http://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family/SW2812-rookwood-jade/ they have european partners, or print this out where the color is good and take it to look for similar tones - bring home 5 paint swatches and stick them up and stand back - then trust your eye - lovely lovely setting . . . I suspect they have deep winters here and cottage gardens are only for a few months of the year (bulbs are the ticket for that! -tulips would be wonderful here)

We are in winter now so it's cool and dry hot and wet from about November. But not bookikg as the city is about 6000 feet above sea level. So going to stick to white inside and I think one of those nice shades of green for the outside door and leave windows as they are for now. Going to garden shop tomorrow !
