Replacing existing tiles with hardwood - but have an oak staircase
June 2, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We are installing a new hardwood floor to replace ceramic tiling...which also includes the area around the staircase...the staircase is red oak and we are wanting our new hardwood to be Maple and in a much darker colour? Do we need to do anything to the stairs to match the darker colour or will the contrast still work! There are some dark grains in the staircase. Help? Thank you

Have you got your new flooring yet? If so, I would get out a few pieces of the flooring to lay near the stairs and see what you think of them together. Give it a few days so you can see them together in different lights, and so you can see it when you're in different moods. If you like it, go for it. If not, you can decide what to do from there.
