2 Part Flooring Question

June 7, 2014 in Design Dilemma
We've recently enclosed our back porch and have 3 small children that are in and out of the house constantly! We are putting pine boards up on the walls and have lots of sunlight streaming into the area. We are thinking a linoleum flooring would be best for the space since it will be always wet/dirty and high traffic. Question #1: What types/qualities of linoleum should we be looking for? Question #2 Should we go darker than the light walls and airy feel of the room or keep the floors light as well?

Is this a three season or four season porch? A three season in the Midwest have limited choices due to the weather.

Will the porch be an entry or sitting area?

It's a four season porch, it'll endure all 4 seasons as it is the entry way for the house. There is also a seating area so I can sit and watch the kids and be sheltered from the all the horrible weather they don't seem to mind playing in!

In that case, there is a fiber floor that would be wonderful for your space. Mannington and Tarkett has some great patterns that look so much like wood, stone and ceramic it is hard to tell the difference. The core is fiberglass so it is impervious to water both from the top and bottom. This can be a floating floor but I would glue it down since you have a four season porch. A flood of water can shrink the floor if it is loose laid. Water from boots and weather related mishaps won't shrink it and won't cause discoloration. A matt on the floor will catch sand and abrasive abuse of any floor. Ask for floating floors with a fiberglass core.
Good Luck!

Thanks for that, we are so new to the renovations I would never have thought of Fiberglass in my floors!
