Shape of kitchen island

We are putting in a new kitchen and wondering about the shape of the island. Does a curved island on one side give more room for seating? Or is the rectangular the way to go? Just wondering how stools would look. We have purchased four Hooker stools to tuck under the island.

I would think rectangular, or an island with a peninsula type idea on one or both sides. I feel that there is more usable space in a rectangular, angled, peninsula, etc. islands. A curved, to me, will always have that one spot that is uncomfortable to sit at and unusable.

By peninsula do you mean L- shaped? Thought we'd lose sitting space that way. Thoughts?

I couldn't get my scanner to work, strange. Anyways, I drew it out and there isn't a huge difference in "elbow room" by having a horseshoe or U-Shaped Island vs a curved, but depending on how large you can make your island, it could be significant enough. Basically keep in mind you want 2' per stool. You would gain the most room for seating by having a rectangular shaped island, and you could potentially use the ends for even more seating (4' deep rectangular islands are the most efficient.) Hope this helps!

Yes, it does. Aesthetically I want the rectangular shape so that stools look aligned. Stools might look scattered with a curved shape. We won't have overhang at the ends for stools for seating. Thanks so much for your input. Now I have to convince my hubby....
