How to make log living room at lake less rustic, more cape cod

We'll soon move to our dream home at the lake! Living room is only room with interior log walls, beautiful rock fireplace, wood ceiling and floors. Room tends to be dark. I love white, light interiors. How can I decorate and furnish this room to make it cozy, bright, less rustic but still practical for my family?

I would use all light colored furniture.......A cream colored couch, chairs, white stained wood coffee table, cream colored area rug........light curtains...........etc.

Buy a couch and chairs with removable washable covers.........

The cream colored rug will need to be vacummed and kept clean with spray cleaners....
Another option is to get a white rug so that it won't matter if you have to use bleach to clean it occasionally.........

Can you move the moose to another room...........?

You will be pleased with the transformation.

You got what you got, and its great! live with what it is.. you will settle into it. It would be a mistake to make it into something else... if that is what you wanted, you should build new.

Don't think about painting it white; that would be a major mistake.
This is a rustic house; embrace its rusticity, and think of it in the same vein as rustic houses in the French countryside; fill it with pale color, flowers and light.

Great idea! I will do some research on that style. I surely won't paint the wood white; just looking for ways to lighten the room. Your idea has much merit. Thanks!

Your home is absolutely gorgeous! Enjoy!

Add a feminine touch with cut flowers and the like. A couple of large plants in bright ceramic planters would also brighten things up a bit.
