Granite bench problem

I have a fabulous granite bench in my new house but I live in a temperate climate and in the winter the granite sucks all the heat out of the room and has a freezer effect. If I sit at the bench to read the paper I have to cover the granite with a tea towel so my forearms don't freeze. No one ever told me about this. Great in a tropical climate but does anyone have any ideas on how to heat up my bench?

A company or contractors who install radiant floor heating might be able to help you. The idea i have is this : An electric heater that hugs the underside of the granite. Granite though is a dense rock. How thick is it. For a bench i'm thinking at least 1.5 to 2 inches. It might take a while to heat up though.

That's a thought but at what cost to heat? And... would I have to raise the bench to install the heater? I just wish someone had warned me about this before I installed it. I also have raised this point so other people will know.
