Add Some Glam
Stacy CSJune 16, 2014
I recently made some changes to my dining room that has made the room really stand out. I added a new light fixture and bought some new dining furniture that I love. Now I need some inspiration to make my mid-century living room a little more glam to match. I could use suggestions on a rug, lamps and something for the wall behind the sofa. Ideas? I'd consider new barstools as well, if they were functional and comfortable. I just need some inspiration. I have lots of framed pieces on the walls so I was thinking of something more sculptural for the wall. Thank you for your help!

The dining room and kitchen are open to each other.

Small mirrored chest side tables (maybe a mercury glass finish) and a wood coffee table to play off your dining table would amp up the glam factor. I like your upholstered pieces.

You might pick up some ideas from this pic. I would suggest a new coffee table for the MCM
look you are looking to achieve.

For new bar stools (how comfy they are ...?) or it could be "overload" with the dining chairs

If you moved the two chairs to face the couch, a rug (same texture as what is in dining room), a unique mirror over couch (see pic) and something really interesting on coffee table, it will complete that area. The type of barstools in the pic could have cushions for extra comfort and are airy like your dining chairs.

Your home looks fantastic! You have excellent taste in furnishings :)

It's hard to tell from the photo what color / type of rug you have in the dining room, but you probably don't want anything too matchy for the rug in the living room. Try something in a different but coordinating color family, or consider a cowhide rug. Those look great with a mid-century modern style. http://www.westelm.com/products/cowhide-rug-r659/?pkey=crugs-flooring&cm_src=rugs-flooring||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- http://www.hayneedle.com/product/safaviehcoh211a5cowhiderugbrownwhite45x65ft.cfm

As far as art for above your sofa, here are some fun sculptural options: http://www.westelm.com/products/sunburst-wire-wall-art-w1126/?pkey=cwall-art-decor&cm_src=wall-art-decor||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- http://www.westelm.com/products/capiz-wall-art-triangle-d2261/?cm_src=AutoRel http://www.westelm.com/products/curved-metal-wall-art-w930/?pkey=cwall-art-decor&cm_src=wall-art-decor||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- http://www.potterybarn.com/products/penny-farthing-high-wheel-bicycle-metal-wall-art/?pkey=cdecorative-art&cm_src=decorative-art||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- http://www.potterybarn.com/products/sculptural-metal-round-wreath-wall-art/?pkey=cdecorative-art&cm_src=decorative-art||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_- http://www.potterybarn.com/products/circles-wall-mount-votive-holder/?pkey=cdecorative-art&cm_src=decorative-art||NoFacet-_-NoFacet-_--_-

I would focus on choosing your rug and sculptural piece first, since those are likely to be your statement pieces in the living area. Then let those choices narrow your selection for table lamps.

Thank you all for the input! Your photos were good examples of the look that I'm going for. I definitely hadn't considered cowhide, but that's an interesting idea. I liked the lighter one to brighten up the dark floors. Thanks for sharing!

check out the bar stools in this pic
a little pricey but a similar style could be available at a more popular price point
