Need help deciding on paint around fireplace and surrounding wall.

Electric fireplace has glass front, beige marble tile around base, cut-out space above mantel - surrounded by wall. I am in the process of choosing paint and debating about paint colors/shades for the fireplace, around the fireplace, and back wall. The fireplace has a honey oak mantel. Any recommendations for color choices?

Charcoal would look good as a feature wall.

I am actually thinking about Sudan Sand by Glidden. My sofa is a neutral grayish color. Your thoughts?

I am reluctant to darken the room too much with a charcoal.

Taupe is a nice neutral that will bring beige as well as grey into the space. Taupe with black is a really rich look.

What shade would that be in Glidden?

Not familiar with that brand, but benjamin moore Revere Pewter has a lot of fans on Houzz. You could consider something similar.

With the honey oak and creamy marble, you probably need a yellow based tan or camel shade if you want a tan / warm neutral. Sudan sand looks to be a pinky beige tan - many tans do have this undertone but it is unfortunate and difficult to get things to work with it. Glidden will match sw - test a few sherwin williams camel tones if you are sure you want a tan. sw crewel tan may be a good place to start - harmonic tan is another to look at.
Buckram binding or chop sticks are lighter options in these families if you want a lighter shade to go up the stairs but coordinate.

A pale sage green always works well with oak. While you're tweaking the FP, use some heat proof black paint on the brass for an instant update.

Miners Dust from Dunn Edwards is gorgeous and would complement your flooring. It's a great tan grey.
