Help: can't figure out how to arrange living room seating

Just moved into a side hall colonial and I can't figure out how to arrange my living room seating consisting of (1) couch, (1) chair with ottoman and (2) side chairs. I can't put any furniture on the wall with the windows because my husband's stereo will be placed there. I'd like to keep a walk-way from the front door to the back of the house and try to keep the living room separate from the front door/stairway area. I'll have a rug/new blinds/new coffee table and end tables. We are also considering building a corner bookshelf next to the couch in the corner of the room. Any ideas? Everything I have tried seems awkward. Thanks!

I'd put the green couch & ottoman where the side chairs are. Then put the side chairs against the wall opposite the black couch, with a little side table in between them. Or in another area entirely - like somewhere with a view, so you could have a cute spot to have a cup of tea or read a book.

Basically, I'd just use the green chair and black couch in this immediate section.

I think the green chair would look best by the sofa where the matching chairs are . Get rid of the coffee table or replace the legs with longer legs and use it as a console between the matching chairs. Place them on the opposite wall by the window.
You need a larger coffee table, maybe a large square.
Pull it together with a patterned area rug and a large painting(print).

You need an area rug in a soft colour with the couch legs under it and a coffee table with dark legs o be similar to dark couch.
Artwork colours can be based on rug and include some soft greens.

I'm also considering painting the living room walls a light gray-maybe BM edgecomb gray.
