June 18, 2014 in Design Dilemma
Ok so I just got this new place and that's my set up. Should I change the layout? I know I need a rug but what size? And placement? Curtains? Side tables? And it seems too neutral. I'm into the industrial look. Help please

Seems like one has to go through the seating area in order to go other parts of the house.

move the couch that's sideways closer to the photographer and the one in the alcove mush closer to the coffee table so the people sitting on them could actually talk to each other!
is the photographer standing in a dining room?
is the door in the background the front door?
you might want to put a window seat into the alcove with storage if it is the entrance to the house

Open up that beautiful window by moving that couch in to an L with the other one. The coffee table should be 18 inches from the couch it is in front of now. Now that couch faces that window and is closer to the tv AND the other couch. WIN!!!

I am not a fan of rugs on top of carpet. Invest in a side table and lamp instead maybe?

Upload pictures showing the entire room. I would do as most people suggest. Move the sofa to be an "L" then behind the sofa that will be closer to the door add a skinny sofa table. and maybe a bench or two accent chairs infront of the baywindow. In other word create a foyer where none exist and make the living room functional.

Is there enough room for the sofas to face each other? Move the sofa away from the stairs and put it with its back facing the dining room. Move the other one away from the window and have it face the other sofa. This would create an area to get to the dining room without walking infront of the TV or the sofas. Again create a small foyer area at the window and front door.

Thank you for sharing more pics and trying the couch moved. Now that I see the room and your space, I think you may have had the best arrangement first, with the couch in the window area as the traffic could move in the room better that way. I do like the coffee table closer to the couch this way, though.

You may want a floor lamp over by the window couch.

You may also want to think about taking down the art on either side of the window. Maybe one of them could fit on the wall behind the couch by the stairs? And the other on the dining wall when it is time for the green poster to come down?

LOVE the runner and arrangement on the dining table!!!

If you plan to keep everything you have, I suggest that you remove the dinette table.put one sofa where table is now, close to the window.although I know you want the other sofa centered to tv, try to get it more centered to the wall you have it on and pull it forward to make an l to the other. Hopefully, you will have 2.5 ft of walk space behind it. Then place end table between the 2sofas. This look will create balance and better conversation. Now that the window is free, you might watch for a. Small round table 36-38 inch. With a couple of small chairs to flank it with.
