we're in the planing stages of kit remodel..the island will be downsized leaving space where current wood floor exists..floor was installed at least 13 yrs is Bruce prefinished flooring in color "gunstock"..was wondering if floor can be sanded lightly and stained or painted..would paint work on a non sanded floor..then we wouldn't have all the dust painted floors hold up with the heavy traffic you have in a kitchen? advice, opinions and comments welcomed!!!thanks..George in GA..

sand the whole floor and re-stain find a re finisher that dust bags the dendrites.
If you want to aid patters or stencils an ebony stained floor base will show it them off. Oil based finish, stencil paint with Japanese drying oil added to the stencil pant.
