What's the space between the tub and vanity?

I am renovating my daughters' bathroom and it is laid out very similarly to this but currently has a shower only. We are putting in a tub and I was wondering how much space is appropriate between the tub and vanity (as most seem to have the toilet next to the tub and I would rather not get into too much plumbing...)
