Vertical seam vs standing seam metal roofs

I'm trying to figure out the big difference between a vertical seam and a standing seam metal roof. I am having a metal roof put on our front porch, not the whole house. I've watched You Tube videos and still can't say that I understand the difference.

I'd be more concerned about the specifics of the roof than what it is called.

Vertical and standing seam both describe a roof where the seam is not simply flat lapped -- the seam is vertical, or standing.

Multiple methods to accomplish the same thing.

Higher end products will use a concealed clip that allows the panel to float as it expands and contracts.

Some require a mechanical seam done on the roof, others snap together.

ppf - the reason I was questioning the difference was because I was told that installing a vertical seam was less expensive than a standing seam and I'm not understanding why since they look the same. One site I was on was saying something about the vertical seam requiring many, many more nails.

As I said, focus on the product, not the name :)

Another way of categorizing a metal roof is exposed or concealed fastener -- screws, not nails.

Concealed fastener is better.

Why would one be more expensive than the other....or should it be??
