Hi, I too have a teen age daughter who likes black. I can tell you the compromise we reached (because I was having difficulty with black, as well : ) The solution we reached turned out to be a very striking, beautifully decorated room. We agreed upon one black wall; the other a soft, muted grey. The window sills, doors and trim popped with white paint. She chose another less dominant accent color of red, so we accessorized with lots of black home decor items, interspersed with red. The finished look was amazing - I was scared that black was going to be dark and foreboding, but the overall effect was quite the opposite. She's happy with it, I'm happy and she she has an amazing room!
