Hi - because a laminate is flat, noise bounces off it ... Of you wanted non carpet that doesn't bounce noise around so much and is slightly warmer on the toes then maybe consider cork instead. Adding good thick under matting will help with most choices of finish - and you might even be able to have UFH professionally installed if you wanted warmth - most good flooring companies would be able to advise you on which product will best suit your needs and your particular circumstances.
( NB personally I have non fitted carpet in bedrooms, as I live in an old cottage, I've kept the original floorboards and added, whipped to size, large rugs leaving about 10" of flooring showing around the rooms ! It's cosy and soft underfoot - but doesn't keep all of the drafts out !!!)
