I need a grey color!

britneylindseyJuly 25, 2014
Houzz friends please help!!! I am in search for a great shade of grey. There are a ton out there to choose from, but from the samples I have already bought, so many have too much of a greenish tint. :/

Do any of you have suggestions for a nice, true fairly light shade of grey? Or any suggestions for picking a true grey shade??

Please help!

Here is a palette of Benjamin Moore light grey paints that look pretty true from what I can tell online. I would think that the next best step would be to visit the paint store to double check your choice(s). Good luck!

I am also looking for a good gray for a master bedroom. As with the above swatch, some look bluish, some look greenish, and some look gray. I have decided the wise thing is to invest in a couple of small samples, paint an area and leave it a day or so, in order to see how it looks different times of the day.

Here's the most popular gray among Houzzers - from Sherwin Williams. Also an ideabook to help you out.

--Cut the gray color strips apart and compare your favorite shades next to each other on white paper (vertical on the wall). This way you can see the different undertones (green, blue, red) in each gray color.
--Eliminate any gray that you don't like until you have one color left.
--Paint a two coat sample on the wall (make sure it has at least a day to dry)

The lighting in your room affects how you perceive colors so make sure you look at all the samples in the room.

We suggest that you purchase samples of any colors that you are interested in and paint sample boards (2' x 3') that can be moved around your space at different times of the day to see them in various lighting conditions. Being able to move them around, IMO, helps to make a better decision. We take a board of 1/4" drywall and cut it into about 5 pieces and paint two coats on each board of any color we are considering. The client lives with them for a couple of days in order to make a decision.

Take a look at Dorian Gray from Sherwin Williams. I just did a test board of this color for a client and I really liked it. Also, Revere Pewter is a Benjamin Moore color rather than a Sherwin Williams color.
