Help! Need to correct white washing paint project.

We needed to lighten up our kitchen, preparing for resale. The expert at our Sherwin Williams store suggested whitewashing a dark, wood wall near our fireplace. The wall now looks blue and does not go with the rest of the paint colors. We even went over it again with a cream coat to match the paint we used in the kitchen (7683 SW Buff).

Can anyone help us salvage the project?

Additional info: The woodwork in the kitchen is cherry, with a lighter colored countertop (oak or hickory?). We have black laminate countertops also. The floors are a light maple.

Maybe try painting it solid white like the trim around your doors. That white washing doesn't look good

Paint it a putty color, picking up one of the tones in the stone below it

Paint it the trim white or the wall color.

Give it a coat of primer and then paint it the cream wall color or the white trim color.

I would first use a strong primer like Zinsser or KILZ, then paint it a "soft" white

Yah, that certainly isn't what you want. It has that shabby chic look that is okay in furniture, but makes a house look like an old dump.

Go to youtube and see if you can find any videos showing how to correct the problem. I'm sure you aren't the first this has happened to, and just because it was a Sherwin Williams paint store clerk who suggested it, doesn't mean they know what they're talking about--they're sales people.

Yes, paint it the same white as the trim. You'll need some good primer like Edithsmom says. Not to worry, it will be quick and easy. Not everything turns out the way we hope it will when adding antique or whitewash finishes. Easy fix.
