Need help to brighten up the whole house

How do I brighten up the whole house without repainting the walls? We're building a house and we chose paint and floor colors that are too dark. We don't have big windows so natural light is not maximized. Here's our floor and paint colors:

Thanks for your help!

Photos of the house would be helpful, also show where the sun direction is.

These were from a few weeks ago. They will be done painting today. The house faces north. The sliding doors and corner pantry is on the south side of the house (photos 1 and 2). The room with smaller windows will be our living room space which is on the west side.

If repainting is not an option, you need to be sure you have light colored furnishings throughout the space as well as light colored kitchen cabinetry.

Assuming that you are unhappy with the paint color you chose, regardless of what you furnish your space with, you may still be unhappy a month or two after you move in. I know it's an expense, but you want to love your new house when you move in it - not regret that you didn't have them repaint with a color you love!

Hi Mandy. Thanks for the suggestion. Repainting is not an option for now. We're trying to stay within our budget and cost of repainting the main floor will be $5k at least. I would definitely repaint it a few years down the road. I just have to learn to love it for now and find ways to brighten it up a bit :) My kitchen cabinets are also a little dark, but countertops are light. Here's some photos I took earlier today.

I think the color you chose is beautiful.

Stick with lighter furniture (creams, taupes for fabric choices) and lighter drapes.

Nice sharp white. Let the art / "feature" wall add character and colour

Thanks everyone for all your suggestions. I will be posting more pictures as our house project goes along to keep you posted. So far, I have bought white leather couch and love seat plus a red chair.
